Dedicated in 2002, Freedom Meadow is a memorial to those who lost their lives as a result of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The memorial is located at the northeast corner of Warren Sports Complex 7599 Eldorado Parkway, Frisco, TX 75034
Freedom Meadow was updated by the City of Frisco in 2019. The Meadow was broadened to increase the conservation of the Blackland Prairie. A controlled burn was performed to kill invasive grasses that hindered the seeding of bluebonnets and other native wildflowers.
Due to COVID 19, the 9/11 event will be presented on-line this year. The seed scattering and FFD water salute that have been part of the Frisco Garden Club's Remembrance Ceremonies since 2002 are not part of this year's program. However, we are hopeful that all of the past work done to rejuvenate the field to its original and natural glory will be witnessed this spring. Texas native wildflowers are resilient. Freedom Meadow remains a symbol of our Country's own resilience and beauty.
We will never forget the lives we lost on September 11, 2001.
The 9/11 Remembrance Service for 2020 will be a virtual commemoration. We are grateful to the City of Frisco Communications team for the making of a short video which will be placed on the City of Frisco website and Facebook page on September 11th and available for viewing and sharing throughout the day.
The program will follow a similar format to previous years. The video will be an edited mix of pre-recorded live sections and pictures taken at past commemorations. The invocation will be given by Father Michael Gilton, Rector of St Phillip's Episcopal Church, Frisco. The Mayor of the City of Frisco, Jeff Cheney will deliver a message of remembrance. The two wreaths seen in place at the Freedom Meadow Memorial are generously donated again this year by Turrentine Jackson Morrow.
