Pumpkins!

Did you know?

  • Pumpkins are fruits, not vegetables, botanically speaking, because they develop from a flower and contain seeds.

  • The word "pumpkin" comes from the Greek word pepon , which means "large melon".

  • Pumpkins are mostly water, with about 90% of their composition being water.

  • Pumpkins grow in a variety of colors: beyond orange, including white, yellow, green, and even blue.

  • Illinois is the top pumpkin-producing state in the U.S., harvesting more pumpkin acres than any other state.

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is famous for its "Autumn at the Arboretum" festival, which uses an extraordinary number of pumpkins. For the 2025 event, the garden is displaying more than 110,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash.

Pumpkin Village: 2025 Highlights include a mural inspired by Frida Kahlo’s Casa Azul, six pumpkin houses representing different regions of Mexico, and even a pyramid of Kukulkán! Don’t miss eight monumental Spirit Guides sculptures created by internationally renowned Oaxacan artists Jacobo and María Ángeles, celebrating Zapotec traditions.  A stunning “Cielo Tejido” textile canopy from Mexico City transforms the garden into an open-air art gallery.
